Jakub Mensik has pedigree on the subject of inflicting upsets on the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. But the 20-year-old hit new heights on the ATP 500 on Thursday, when he shocked World No. 2 Jannik Sinner with a cultured quarter-final efficiency.
Mensik upset Sinner 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-3 for the most important win of his profession by PIF ATP Rating. Two years in the past, the Czech notched his maiden Prime 5 victory towards Andrey Rublev throughout his breakout run to championship match in Doha. On Thursday evening, he produced a nerveless deciding set to prevail in his maiden Lexus ATP Head2Head assembly with Sinner and guide a semi-final assembly with Arthur Fils.

Already up three spots to No. 13 within the PIF ATP Stay Rankings after reaching the final eight in Doha, Mensik produced a relentless serving efficiency to sink Sinner. He gained 82 per cent (49/60) of factors behind his first supply, based on Infosys ATP Stats, and he recovered impressively within the third set after a mid-match drop in his degree.
The 2025 Miami champion Mensik is now 4-2 towards Prime 5 opponents, a tally that features victories towards ATP No. 1 Membership members Novak Djokovic and Sinner. He’ll bid to achieve the Doha remaining for the second time on Friday, when he faces the 21-year-old Fils.
Having made his return to motion after 5 months out attributable to a again damage earlier this month, Frenchman Fils earned his first tour-level semi-final look since final April by overcoming Jiri Lehecka 6-3, 6-3.
